The heated debate over using lead shot for gamebirds has been especially prominent in the news this week, since Iowa's Natural Resources Commission decided to ban it for Iowa's new dove season starting Sept. 1. But wait — at least one legislator believes the ban will be eventually reversed. Democratic senator Dick Dearden of Des Moines says the ban will only last one year if it does move forward.
According to RadioIowa, Dearen says the move to ban lead shot was never intended, calling it "absolutely the most sneaky underhanded thing I've seen any commission do in the state of Iowa."
"There are just a few off-the-wall environmentalists that want to ban lead for everything," Dearden says.
What do you think? Lead or no lead for the dove season?
