Kinetic: A New Super Food for Gun Dogs

Kinetic: A New Super Food for Gun Dogs

Back in 2012, when Dave Dourson and John Howard announced that they were starting the manufacturing and sales of their own brand of dog food, their families, friends, and business associates all asked one big question: “Why?”

With successful careers working for established dog-food makers, and with dozens of dog-food brands already on the market, Dourson (age 58) and Howard (age 49) sort of came off as a couple of wild and crazy guys. Both men, however, had seen the need for a specialized type of high-performance food that would fill a niche in the existing market.

According to Dourson, “There was a definite place for a high-energy dog food with high-quality protein and fat combined with high-quality, all-natural vitamins and mineral supplements, all specifically calibrated for hard-working canines.”

“A super food,” Howard adds, “unlike anything exclusively offered by other dog-food makers.”

Kinetic Is Born

The consequence of all this planning resulted in the Kinetic brand of premium kibbles formulated for all styles and life stages of all breeds of gun dogs. What is special about this dog food is that it comes in four formulas, each of which has very similar basic ingredients varying only in the ratio of protein and fat.

“What is unique about Kinetic is that each of the four formulas is based on a single recipe that includes the same type of protein (made of chicken, eggs, and fish) and fat (derived from chicken, sunflower seeds, and fish),” said Howard. “Likewise, all four formulas have the same kinds of carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, and all-natural supplements.”

“Each formula significantly varies only in its percentage of protein and fat, so that there is a choice of food for every kind of canine depending on its life stage and lifestyle,” said Howard. “The Puppy Formula 28K, for example, has 28-percent protein and 15-percent fat for optimum growth, while Ultra Formula 32K has 32-percent protein and 24-percent fat to support the extremely active adult dog.”

“Because of this uniformity in basic ingredients, there is no problem in switching from one formula to another. For example, a dog owner could start a young dog on Puppy Formula 28K and change over to Active Formula 26K with 26-percent protein and 16-percent fat, or move to Power Formula 30K with 30-percent protein and 20-percent fat without creating intestinal upsets or problems with metabolism.” said Howard.

Real Processed Meat

“Although protein can be derived from inexpensive corn, wheat, and soy, a better source of protein is dried-meat products such as chicken meal, chicken byproduct meal, fish, and eggs,” said Howard. “These protein sources are more costly but are packed with readily digestible and easily absorbable nutrients that provide quicker energy for hard-working gun dogs. Add to these ingredients natural fat sources, and more fast energy in available.”

You Get What You Pay For

“If you’re not paying a buck or more per pound for the dog food you’re feeding, the food is probably inferior,” said Dan Jorgenson, a breeder, trainer, and hunter of a line of Golden retrievers he has had for 10 years. “I learned this lesson the hard way after using a cheap kibble for eight years and having lots of trouble with small litter sizes, problems with diseases, and difficulties with low energy in my dogs when training and hunting.”

After a client dropped off his dog and left a bag of Kinetic and told him to try it, Jorgenson noticed a big difference in his dog.

“Within two weeks, I noticed that my six-year-old stud dog was more active, much stronger, and faster to recover after a hard workout in the field,” said Jorgenson.

Versatile Dog Food

“I use all four Kinetic Formulas with my German shorthairs, because I sometimes have a dozen dogs ranging in age from puppies to senior citizens, and from middle-aged couch potatoes to hard-driven field-trial and hunt-test competitors,” said Rhonda Phelps from Fargo, North Dakota. “Switching from one formula to another, as time goes by, has never been a problem because the basic recipe for each kind of kibble is so similar. This is a simple solution to feeding any dogs, no matter their age or degree of activity.”

Trusted

“Kinetic has been on the market long enough to become well-known and trusted by a core of satisfied customers,” said Howard. “Dave and I have personally spent lots of time, effort, and dollars talking with dog owners to give information and get feedback from those people who use our products. This has been a good way to promote Kinetic, rather than sticking lots of money into a massive and expensive advertising campaign.”
