Gun Dog: Best Puppy Photos in 2017

Gun Dog readers love to share puppy photos. And our annual reader Gun Dog puppy photo essay is one of the most popular features of the year. Some of the photos are stately and some are just plain fun, but all are worth a long look. Here are some of the best puppy shots we received for 2017.

Don't fence me in! Having for 20 years followed the line from which she came, Joe Kline was able to acquire German shorthaired pointer, FRIEDELSHEIM'S LIL STORM BREWIN', call name TESSA. She is an eight-month-old alpha female who is crazy about birds and hits the water like a Labrador!

High and dry! Nineweek-old SANDY would rather not get wet when it's cool outside, according to owner Shannon McCormick.

Ready for take-off! Derrick Stumpf submitted this photograph of one-year-old MAX, a German shorthaired pointer owned by Nancy and Bob Everstine of Ellicott City, Maryland. Max is one of a litter of nine from Gary Hutchison of Westwind GSPs in Great Plains, Kansas.

Boot Camp! Puppy in training! Jay Schwisow submitted this breathtaking photo of HR WASATCH'S RESOLUTE CASSIE and puppy, SKYE.

This statuesque pup is ALL BUSINESS! Dennis Berger of Lubbock, Texas, sent this photograph of 16-month old ZEKE looking forward to his first full season while hitting the hunt tests.

Eight-month old springer NOX was photographed with two roosters from her first hunt on the Yakama Nation Reservation. Mark Palmer of Fall City, Washington admits that if she had a better shooting partner she would have retrieved her limit.

'I did NOT bring those in here! ' LUCY, a four-month-old GSP, loves to dig up acorns buried by squirrels then hide the nuts in her mouth to sneak them into the house, reports Todd Powers of Esterville, Iowa.

A joy to observe in action, KAISER is a 15-week-old German shorthaired pointer. His natural ability makes him truly amazing to watch, says his owner, Steven Rouse of Schochoh, Kentucky.

History made! At four months, beautiful BELLA ROSE, owned by Mike Salvey, is already marking birds. According to her pedigree, Bella's sire, Trulines Wild Son (Nike), is from the first breeding in AKC history of two chocolate Lab field champions.

Go jump in a lake! Nine-week-old yellow Lab CAMO, pictured here retrieving a Dokken DeadFowl dummy, loves water. 'Whether a lake, river or kiddie pool, if there is water is nearby, he will be in it! ' says his owner, James Adkins of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

'RACE YA! ' Fieldbred English cockers NICK and ALF are enjoying a romp at training day with the Mason Dixon English Cocker Spaniel Club. Bruce Durham of Purcellville, Virginia, submitted this picture.

Secure an artist! This photograph should be a painting. Jim and Sandy Schorsch of New Baltimore, Michigan, submitted this picture of their five-month-old Braque Francais puppy, GUSTY.

'Here's lookin' at you, kid! ' This winking yellow Lab is five-weekold BANE, owned by Keith Bradley, who says Bane is actually pretty courageous for such a little guy.
