We’ve all been there: A moment of complete frustration when you get to the field and realize you forgot to charge your dog’s collar the night before. The low battery is flashing, and your collar isn’t going to last through your hunt.
Garmin, the leaders behind dog tracking and training collars, have developed a solution and turned that red flashing battery light to constant green with the release of the TT 15X and the T 5X dog tracking collars.
Garmin TT 15X & T 5X Upgrades The two new collars can be paired with the Garmin Alpha, Astro 430, and PRO 550 Plus dog tracking units and now provide handlers with up to 80 hours of use from a single charge. The 80 hours is twice that of previous Garmin dog devices, but of course is dependent on the update rate you have your devices set to (2.5, 5, 10, 30, or 120 second intervals).
Additionally, users can put the collars to “sleep” through their tracking units to help further extend battery life. This functions as a remote on/off switch in case your dog’s collar is close to dead in the field. When you “sleep” the collar, the live tracking turns off but remains on standby to start tracking again when you wake up the collar. This is especially helpful when you have a lost dog and want to make sure its collar doesn’t go dead before you can locate he or she. Simply put the collar in sleep mode, navigate to the dog’s last known position, then activate the collar to receive an updated tracking point.
