Bella...Be Good: Episode 1

A video series following the training of a young Labrador on her way to becoming a gun dog

Welcome to the world of Bella…Be Good — a video series collaboration between dog trainer and Owner/Creator of Dog Bone Hunter, Jeremy Moore, and GUN DOG magazine. The series will follow Bella, a Labrador retriever puppy on her journey to becoming a gun dog. The series will highlight training techniques, the first steps you should take when you bring your puppy home, how to handle difficult training sessions, and more. Bella…Be Good will show viewers the real and raw behind the journey of a bird dog.

Bella was 15 weeks old when this first segment was filmed. After a couple days of simply settling into routine around our place, we started working on building a few good habits.

A few, and I literally mean just two or three retrieves is all we wanted, and our focus was sharing the dummy with her, not taking it away. I want her to know that we are going to share the dummy upon return in addition to praise. These first retrieves are where we begin laying out the ground work to a solid delivery.

We also are finding a few habits that aren’t the most desirable at feeding times and we work on putting together a plan to remedy that.
