GUN DOG's Favorite Reader Puppy Photos

GUN DOG's Favorite Reader Puppy Photos

Folks sure do love puppies. After all, what's not to love? From being super cuddly to hilariously playful and rambunctious, puppies are about the most universally loved thing on the planet, something enjoyed by pretty much anyone with a soul. That includes outdoorsmen, who see a pup as a future hunting partner, one that will be flushing pheasants or diving for ducks while being a faithful and loyal companion for many years.

That much is evident over at our reader gallery, Snapshots, which features plenty of photos from you, the reader, of hunting dogs of all shapes, sizes and ages — including pups. Here are a few of our favorite puppy photos from our readers.

Scotia Pride

Barbara Blauvelt of ScotiaPrideTollers.com sent in these photos of 4-month-old Scarlett, a Nova Scotia duck tolling retriever.

Strike a Pose

Beth Coleman of Lynchburg, Va., sent this photo of 10-week-old Libby striking a pose while watching a plane fly overhead.

Calling All Pups

Gun Dog reader Colt Wells sent in this photo of his 3-year-old son, Ryder, playing with a litter of 6-week-old yellow Labs. Wells writes, "He has seen me train our dog and he loves making duck sounds with the call. He is getting the puppies started young just like he was started young! He loves being outdoors hunting and fishing, but now he loves his eight new best friends more than anything!"

Box o' Pups

Dale Usher sent this shot of a box of German shorthair pointer pups from Pondarosa Pointer in Sedalia, Ky. Yes, they're cute, Usher writes, but these pups are going to be awesome hunters someday.

Ready to Roll

Sparrow, an 8-week-old Ryman English setter, may be deaf, but that doesn't slow her down in the field, says owner Danica Barreau, who writes this is one pup that's "totally ready to take over the world."

Happy Valentine's Day

Elaine Tweedy sent in this photo of her 8-week-old Ryman English setter, Lilah, wishing everyone a happy Valentine's Day. Tweedy writes Lilah can already point the cat and "stalks toys effectively."

Rock Star

Harold Ward sent this shot of his pride and joy, Macie, a Llewellen setter, surveying her property.

Time Flies

Gemma Wren, an English setter, has grown quite a bit since this photo was taken when she was just an 8-week-old pup, writes owner Hiliary Shelton. Now 1 year old, Gemma Wren can be found pointing squirrels in Shelton's back yard.

A Few of My Favorite Things

Now this is a tired pup. Josh and Jennifer O'Dell of Gresham, Ore., sent this photo of their 8-week-old Elhew English setter, Ruger, napping with a few of his favorite things.

Best Present Ever

Josh and Jodi Bonds sent in this photo of their daughter, Anna Jo, with a special present from Santa Claus — Marley, a Brittany spaniel.

A Boy and His Dog

Man's best friend? How about boy's best friend? Katie Atherton sent in this shot of her 4-year-old son, Michael, and 5-month-old GSP, Ruger, future hunting buddies practicing their scouting.

Break Time

Kendra Miligan sent in this photo of Luke, a 9-week-old Lab, who's taking a break from a round of fetch.

Close-Up

While outside testing his pup's bird dog skills, Pacific Grove, Calif., native Kyle Haubold snapped a few photos of 8-week-old Murphy, a Brittany spaniel, who clearly isn't camera shy.

Heavy Reading

Now this is proof that we know our audience. Sarah-Beth Hudson shared this photo of her boyfriend, Russ, and their GSP pup, Goose, reading our favorite publication. Hudson writes, "As you can see, Goose was very excited to see his 'daddy' and decided to jump up in the chair, sit like a human and read the magazine with him. Maybe Goose will pick up a few pointers — no pun intended — from your magazine!"

Practice Makes Perfect

Sydney Hudson sent in this shot of her Lab puppy, Lily, practicing her retrieving.
