The stress of life can get to anyone.

That’s true even for a New Jersey beagle named Brandi that recently jumped 70 feet from the Burlington-Bristol Bridge after an onslaught of bystanders tried to rescue the seven-year-old dog as it fled owners.

Bridge officer Rob Bittner told the Courier Post that he followed the dog up the incline and watched as several people tried to rescue the weary dog from oncoming traffic.

With owners Robert and Alexis Lorenz hot on her trail, and swarms of traffic on all sides, Bittner said the dog looked back and forth, came to the edge, and then jumped. Brandi’s owners said she came from a rescue and has dealt with stress related issues, which could explain her moment of panic.

Rescue workers and her owner found Brandi wandering the shoreline after her leap, apparently unharmed from the drop. Her veterenarian, Dr. Jeanette Pettit, said the beagle was lucky to have suffered so little injury from the sizable leap.

“She was a little bruised up around her abdomen, but other than that she was considerably lucky not to have broken any bones,” Pettit said.
