The job of the Nova Scotia duck tolling retriever is to look like a fox and nine-week-old Cody does his job well. This foxy fellow is owned by Kelly Nechuta of Hayward, Wisconsin.
Three-and-a-half-month-old French Brittany Ben is locked on a quail. Ben’s proud owners are John and Diane Druffel of Cashiers, North Carolina.
Sisko is a 15-week-old golden retriever who already shows good retrieving capabilities on wing-clipped chukars. His owners, Patrick and Jessica Sexton of Parma, Michigan, remain hopeful that Sisco will soon grow into his collar!

Lincoln, Nebraska is home to vizsla Pinnie, shown pointing a wing at 10 weeks. Owners Mark and Kerry Vrtiska report that Pinnie is now in her second year of hunting and thoroughly enjoys pointing the whole bird.
Nap time! After losing two great dogs last year, Teresa and Donnie Johnson of Spirit Lake, Iowa have two new puppies. Sammy, the one-year-old Lab, was born swimming, while Lily, the six-week-old Brittany, is trying to fill some pretty big paws-the Johnsons refer to her predecessor as “the ultimate Brit.”
Wisconsin’s next Top Model…Echo strikes a pose. Owned by Kay and Don Harkcom of Hudson, Echo, an English setter, is active, intelligent, a great pointer and retriever…plus, she loves to snuggle.
Dutch is preparing for duck season as well as trying to grow into those feet. He is an eight-week-old Chesapeake Bay retriever owned by Dave Buckton of Eagle River, Wisconsin.
Autumn fun! “Della loves to swipe things–like these Montana Hunting Regulations–and run outside,” say owners Joel and Susan Ostby of Sunburst, Montana. Della (Rimrock’s Delegator) is an eight-month-old German wirehaired pointer.
When the real thing can’t be found, Sonny is happy to maul a stuffed bird. Mike Ebhardt of Savage, Minnesota says the yellow Labrador, shown here at eight weeks, is his first gun dog and has earned his spot as partner at home as well as afield.
High style! Lowry’s Chestnut “Meg” shows plenty of promise as she points in the yard. Chad Lowry of Iuka, Illinois hopes to create a dynamic duo with this three-month-old chestnut and white English setter and his two-year-old tricolor male.
“Hey! This isn’t a pheasant!” This English cocker spaniel, nine-week-old Cody, is owned by Dominic Chiovaro of Clive, Iowa.
No need to look for a photo op–according to owner Jeffrey Morris of Meriden, Connecticut, four-month-old golden retriever Gunner poses perfectly every time. Gunner loves to go outside to retrieve bumpers and balls and will also heel and fetch on command.
Now, that’s a pile of puppies! All three colors are represented in this six-week-old litter of Labrador retrievers owned by Bob and Brenda Jirik of Prior Lake, Minnesota.
Ezekiel’s Bold Vision is an Airedale terrier owned by Mick and Terry Younkins of Moon Twp., Pennsylvania. He retrieved his first goose last September at age seven months, but “some dope” (Mick’s words) neglected to bring the camera that day.
Heather enjoys relaxing in “her” recliner after a hard day of practice chukar hunting. The three-month-old German shorthair is owned by Jim Watson of Reno, Nevada.
Owned by Rod and Clarice Henning, Rex is an eight-week-old Brittany who is happiest when playing with his stuffed birds at his home in Waverly, Nebraska.
“If I point it long enough, do you suppose this concrete frog will become a bird?” Ten-week-old English setter Liza lives in Binghamton, New York with her owners Si and Amy Mathay.

Dynata’s Bound To Be Amazing–”Mayzie” for short–is an 11-week-old vizsla who plans to enjoy some long overdue bird hunting with her owner, Ross Stephenson of Severna Park, Maryland, when Ross retires from the Marine Corps next year.

Ruger, shown here at three months, is a Chesapeake Bay retriever owned by Zeth and Laura Smith of Springtown, Texas. Now almost two years old, Ruger loves the water and bird hunting.
It took Sisco, a Labrador shown here at nine weeks, only a couple of days to figure out where his loyalty lies, and that’s with owner Mike Cuneo of Belmont, Michigan. Sisco is now one and a half years old and just finished his first hunting season.
“Riley was born to be a bird dog and began demonstrating his love of birds at a very young age,” says owner Dennis Fox of Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Riley, an English springer spaniel, was six weeks old when this photo was taken.
Grizzly Mountain’s Alpha–two-month-old “Bugs,” a Large Munsterlander–isn’t a bit shy about cuddling with Rags, a 95-pound male German longhaired pointer. Owner Larry Sandvol of Aberdeen, Idaho submitted the photo.

Clouseau (“Clue”) is a 10-week-old Braque Francais. Owner Mike DiNunzio of Erie, Pennsylvania, says, “Clue was a character from the get-go and chose this chair as ‘his’ the first night home.” He’ll soon attend a George Hickox training seminar.
Cathleen Chern of Morris Plains, New Jersey, says of her chocolate Lab, KC, “We’ve come a long way in our training. KC, my boyfriend and I have all made mistakes, but we’re learning together!”
Pancho, a 13-week-old Clumber spaniel, was the lone survivor of a litter of four. She inherited the intense birdiness of her mother and the easygoing personality of her father, say owners Valana Wells and Jack Rutherford of Scottsdale, Arizona.
Seven-month-old springer spaniel Norman loves the water and won’t miss an opportunity to splash in a puddle, pond or lake, according to owner Tish Holland of Milton, Massachusetts.
